Your favorite profession combo?
I am (as some of you have already read ) and have a couple of "old" characters that I would like to Make-Over.
Example I have an assasin/monk - I don't like the monk as a 2nd. But what would be a good 2nd to switch to? She is a Faction Character so I don't think I can do Paragon (example) as this is Nightfall??? Right? Same example - A/M - I am a SOLO player and always take a healer hench with me and find I am a Terrible Terrible Healer! So I do Not need the skills of a healer. I have other "old" characters that need a revamp and thought I would ask here What Is Your Favorite Combo and WHY? Thanks! This will be a Big Help to me. |

I find the opposite. Monk is my most successful second class. I tend to play a lot of tanks, so I find myself in the middle of "the crazy" pretty frequently and it helps to have a protection or healing spell in my back pocket.

I like E/Me, my first character created back in 2005 was an E/Me and I still use it very often.
Having the power of elementalist skills combined with utility from mesmer skills is awesome. |

Ranger/Mesmer is pretty fun. Rangers have a lot of attacks that cause conditions, and Epidemic spreads them to other enemies that are near your original target. Since I generally use Barrage with Poison Tip Signet, or Burning Arrow with Apply Poison, and have a Jagged Bones minion bomber hero, that's mass poison, burning, and bleeding spread all over. Massive degen FTW.

I found the secret was to create one character of every class and over time you mix and match secondaries till your happy.
Not that there is a perfect secondary My assassin has been /Monk /Mesmer /Ranger /Warrior /Dervish and /ritualist All of those classes worked in pve some better than others but they all worked. Forgot to mention my favourite combo doh Mesmer is my favourite class and the secondary doesn't matter much to me but I am trying to get a mesmer necro build working atm. Other than that I like Necro/Mesmer and Ritualist/Necro I find in many cases you don't need a secondary for skills as you have so many title skills that fill in nicely. As I am a PvE player now:
Elementalist secondary provides access to an energy management skill that returns 5 to 15 energy every 31 seconds without any attribute commitment. (Glyph of Lesser Energy) Dervish secondary provides access to an outstanding defensive stance that can be maintained constantly for 6 Earth Prayers points. (Conviction) |

Thanks for the info - I only play PvE so the combo would be for that and that only.
There is soo much to re-learn and learn when you have taken a break from a game that has been updated - with time and expansion packs etc. |

@OP
A/W- My most used secondary for my Assassin. "Save Yourselves!" in PvE. And for a few builds in PvP. A/Mo- Veattir Farm with smite skills. Can also be used for other types of Shadow Form farms as well. A/P and A/Me are also popular secondaries for Shadow Form and SCs. A/E- Also for some SF builds and SCs. Or, AP Nuker. A/D- Use a Scythe better than a Dervish. A/R- Use Barrage better than a Ranger. Or be a Runner. A/Rt- Norn Tourny Farm, or use SoS in general PvE and make people laugh at you. I dont really have a favorite combo. Exploiting secondary skills with primary attributes provides too many OP builds to choose just one. But if I had to choose I would say E/Mo, because I like to contribute to my team in HM. |

When I first got Nightfall and rolled a dervish, I thought /W was, how shall we say it? Just what the doctor ordered in my mind of a good complimentary secondary (access to stance removal and utility on an otherwise utility-less class).
Of course, when I discovered Zealous Vow spam, SY! and Protector's Strike I never could find a reason to switch to any other secondary. |

I would have to say Monk and sec. is originally Warrior as for the defenses it provides.I would of chose Mesmer for e-management as well as interrupts and ele provides good e-man.

Out of several diff sin builds ive tried over the few yrs i ended up liking crit scythe sin ( a/d ) - compared to other sin builds with daggers which i really dislike due to skill chains ( why the hell is sin the only skill chained profession i dont know ) which soon as blocked your chains dead. Crit scythe is gd because theres no chain and you do a gd amount of dmg without having to spread attributes to much - i did nf/factions and eotn as crit scythe sin and its never really failed me yet.
What you have to remember is - at lvl 20 you can switch 2ndry prof as many times as you like so in a way your only expanding yourself rather than a "makeover" - if you had a fav a/mo build saved then you can always switch back with no problems. You have to ensure tho that you have nightfall for eg to unlock the derv and para ( easy to get to from kaineng ) . Btw please please never use the words SOLO and heros or hench together as a lot of us players regard solo as just being you in party alone ( eg solo farmers ) and anything else just use h/h - a lot of arguements arise from solo players claiming to be solo but using h/h ( seen a few 55 monks trying to use h/h and wondering why it fails ). |

I like /rt for 2ndary professions.....I use it for most of my heroes.
My monk did all that elite skill capping so he has tried all the 2ndaries...think he has /p right now (some signet)..... my first character is a e/mo and still is (she did get a few /me skills but never used them).... my mesmer likes ranger as 2ndary since she is an interupter (and uses a bow, yes flame me all you wish)....lots of good interrupts that way (hubby has the opposite r/me for the same reason). I guess I like having a pet since my 2nd monk uses /r so /rt or /r are my 2ndary favorites....

I will always be partial to R/Me because I finished proph with it (prot of Tyria) ..back when that was all I had.. hench, no PVE skills, no heros.
For PvE as you progress through EotN and pick up the PvE skills I found that I use those far more than secondary skills.. choice of secondary became less important most of the time. You will always end up tweaking Secondaries for certain missions. Rt secondary is great always to put Magni in his place. I always use Ranger secondary for Glacial Griff and Augery Z mish. I switch to cap elites for my heroes a lot as well. Also your own playstyle matters a lot. I tend to go slow and methodical, pulling and controlling. My best friend.. omg.. she runs para second mainly for fallback and runs everything..zooom past everything to the goal. No matter how good a skillset is for others.. anything you do has to work for you and has to be fun. Right now I have a N/R that is a ranger for the sole reason that I happen to think a Black Raven pet named Cassandra is cool. It is a dumb reason, having a pet in a lot of places is dumb.. but I have fun with her and her good heroes pull the slack. Last edited by Lasai; Jan 14, 2011 at 07:43 PM // 19:43.. |

Just wanted to point out that after a certain point in the storyline, you can change your secondary profession at will.
Seems obvious to most of us, but I'm not sure OP knows this due to the wording in the first post |

N/Me or Me/N. Having hex spam is hilariously imbalanced when the only counter is Deny hexes, convert hexes and Divert hexes . Expel hexes only removes two hexes, so 2 cover hexes is all you need.
E/Mo comes a close second. Old school Ether Prodigy, new Ether Renewal. A/D for sin scythe. A/W and D/W for Wild Blow and Save Yourselves! + Whirlwind attack. Shove on A/W also. |

As a primary R/ I've been playing R/Rt a lot lately. (SoS if I'm lazy, SW/Barrage, Spirit Siphon is great e-mgmt, etc.)
R/D pet scythe is fun too, imho. |
